Spooky Skin

This is not a ghostly Halloween story, but it is definitely spooky enough to be life changing. Skin cancer is no joke! Here at DKM Skincare, we see many cases of skin cancer each year that can be quite scary. We cannot stress enough the importance of using sunscreen on a daily basis. Here is a video of a recent skin cancer removal procedure performed here at DKM Skincare. Watch and take care of your own skin. Use sun protection, visit our store, we have a great selection of sunscreens for you to choose from.

The patient was diagnosed with a squamous cell carcinoma. SCC for short is a skin cancer that almost always stays on the skin and is caused by too much sun exposure or too many sun burns in a person’s lifetime. This diagnosis was obtained by a shave biopsy. This test identifies the type of skin cancer to determine the best course of treatment. Due to the nature and location of the skin cancer the best option was to perform an Electrodessication and Currettage. (ED&C) This involves injecting lidocaine into the site locally and then using instruments (curette and electrodessicator) to burn and scrape the top layer of the skin. Patients are instructed to keep the site moist and covered with a bandage until healed, normally in a couple of weeks.
