The teenage years are some of the most memorable times of our lives. There is the challenge of obtaining a driver’s license, going on your first date, attending your high school prom and applying to colleges. While these years hold some unforgettable moments, they can also be very stressful and downright mean! So the last thing a teenager wants to worry about is the nightmare of having pimples, zits, or being called crater face! This is no-doubt a very nerve-racking time.
The majority of teenagers suffer from acne in one form or the other – from mild to severe. Not only can acne be embarrassing to teens, but it may also lead to deeper emotional problems. Teenagers may suffer from depression, anxiety, and a lack of self-confidence. During the adolescent years, bodies are changing and there is a roller coaster of emotions that comes with the territory. Hormonal changes are one of the most common culprits for causing acne – as we well know, it rages in every teenager.
Androgen, which is a sex hormone active during puberty, stimulates the secretion of the skin’s natural oil. When the oil secretion is mixed with bacteria, it clogs the follicle, which causes the oil and bacteria to get trapped inside the skin – this ultimately results in acne.
Teens are especially vulnerable since their bodies are rapidly changing. Getting acne during this sensitive time in life can put a damper on many social situations. Self-confidence is extremely important to accomplishing your hopes and dreams. The last thing teens want to stand in their way is having acne.
Unfortunately, getting acne is often a part of growing up. Teens can take charge of their skincare early and help keep acne under control. There are good reasons for taking care of your skin at a young age. It is more than just outward appearances; it also affects your emotional health. DKM Skincare is all about promoting healthy skincare regimens and we welcome your questions or comments about any skincare condition including acne.
